These slabs have applied since 22 September 2025 (pan masala and most tobacco products at 40% from 1 February 2026). Changes to a few entries are in force from 1 November 2026 (57th GST Council; Notifications 2/2026 to 10/2026-Central Tax (Rate)): retreaded tractor tyres 5% (18% up to 31 October 2026), psyllium seeds (isabgol) Nil, and delivery through an e-commerce app or website, other than post and courier, 5% without ITC (18% up to 31 October 2026). Hotel rooms up to ₹7,500 a day and restaurants stay at 5% but, from the same date, may take limited ITC on the same service bought from another supplier. See GST rate changes 2026.
The exact rate depends on the HSN/SAC code and the entry's conditions (for example packed and labelled or loose). Search the item above for the entry that applies, or see the GST rates of 377 common items.
Why other websites may show a different rate
GST 2.0 (Notifications 9/2025 and 10/2025-Central Tax (Rate)) replaced most rate schedules on 22 September 2025, but many rate charts online still show the old rates. For example toothpaste moved from 18% to 5%, toilet soap from 18% to 5%, cement from 28% to 18% and air conditioners from 28% to 18%. This finder shows the rate in force today, the old rate where it changed, and the notification for each. See all GST 2.0 rate changes (old vs new).
How to use the GST rate on an invoice
- Within your state: charge CGST and SGST (or UTGST), each half of the GST rate — 18% is 9% + 9%.
- To another state: charge IGST at the full rate.
- Code on the invoice: turnover up to ₹5 crore — at least 4 digits of the HSN code on B2B invoices; above ₹5 crore — 6 digits on all invoices (Notification 78/2020-Central Tax). See what is HSN code.

Questions
How do I find the GST rate of an item?

What are the GST rates after GST 2.0?
From 22 September 2025 (Notifications 9/2025 and 10/2025-Central Tax (Rate)) most goods are taxed at 5% or 18%, with a 40% rate for a short list such as large cars, sugary aerated drinks and caffeinated drinks. Pan masala, cigarettes and most tobacco products stayed at 28% plus compensation cess until 31 January 2026 and are at 40% from 1 February 2026 (Notification 19/2025-Central Tax (Rate)). Exempt goods are Nil, gold and silver 3%, and diamonds and precious stones 0.25% or 1.5%. The 12% and 28% slabs for most goods were removed.

Is this an official government GST rate finder?
No. It is a free reference tool by ARISHIMETO Technologies Private Limited, compiled from CBIC rate notifications. The official rate notifications are published by CBIC at cbic-gst.gov.in; always confirm the entry there.
