In short
- The app works offline and needs no account. Searches, bookmarks and history stay on your phone.

Your profile and any feedback not yet sent are kept only on your phone and are never included in Android backups. The app asks for no runtime permissions: it uses internet and network-state access (to check for updates only on suitable connections) and background scheduling for the nightly check. It does not access your contacts, files, camera, microphone or precise location.
2. Legal basis
We process personal data on the basis of your consent under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023: you give it by choosing to fill in the profile, feedback or sign-up forms, and by leaving usage statistics switched on. You can withdraw consent at any time: switch off usage statistics in About → Your data, or erase what you sent with Delete my data. Withdrawal does not affect processing already done.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent personal data and do not share it for advertising. We use these processors, bound by their terms, only to run the service:
- Google LLC — Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (usage statistics and crash reports) and Firebase Hosting (this website).
- Google Play and Samsung Galaxy Store — distribute the app and its updates under their own privacy policies. Google Play also provides the install referrer and the optional in-app review prompt on Play installs.
We may disclose data where Indian law requires it, for example to a court or government authority acting under law.
4. Where data is stored
Profile, feedback and sign-up data is stored on BooksOn servers. Google's services may process data in other countries under Google's safeguards. We do not transfer personal data to any country restricted by the Government of India under section 16 of the DPDP Act.
5. Security
All data leaves the phone over HTTPS only; the app refuses unencrypted connections. Dataset updates are verified with a digital signature before use. Uploads carry a random app id rather than any device identifier. Copies of the app that fail its integrity check (for example a modified copy) show a warning, do not upload profile or feedback data, and do not install dataset updates.
6. Retention
Leads, profile and feedback: until you delete them (About → Your data → Delete my data) or ask us to, or 24 months after last contact, whichever is earlier. Analytics and crash data: per Google Firebase default retention (14 months for user-level analytics data). Bookmarks and recent searches: until you clear them or uninstall the app.
7. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask for access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data you submitted through the app, may withdraw consent, and may nominate another person to exercise these rights.
- In the app: About → Your data → Delete my data erases your profile, ratings and suggestions on the phone at once and asks BooksOn to delete the copies it holds under your random app ids. If you are offline the request is retried automatically until BooksOn confirms.
- Analytics and crash reports: switch them off at any time in About → Your data → "Share usage statistics and crash reports".
- By email: grievance@bookson.in for the sign-up form or anything else. We act within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Children
The app and this website are not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
9. This website
www.bookson.co.in sets no cookies, runs no analytics, shows no advertising and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) records standard server logs, such as IP address, time, page requested and browser type, which are used only for security and troubleshooting and kept for a limited period under Google's policy. Emails you send to us are used only to answer you.
10. Reference only
Rates shown in the app are compiled from CBIC notifications for reference and are not tax or legal advice. Check the notification and circular cited on each card before any decision. See the Terms & Conditions and Sources & disclaimer.
11. Changes
We update this page and the effective date above when the policy changes. Material changes also change the app's Terms version, and the app asks you to accept the new version.
